Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign Anniversary Rally 17th June
No Justice, No Peace
The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign (OTJC) is continuing its call for the Conservative Government to implement an independent public inquiry into the organised brutal attacks by the police on Miners at the Orgreave Coking plant on 18th June 1984. We need to put an end to the injustice experienced by Miners and their communities over the last 33 years.
The OTJC Anniversary march and rally will take place this year on Saturday 17th June at Orgreave at 1:00pm with a number of high profile speakers and supporters including:
- Yvette Cooper, Labour MP and Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee
- Frances O’Grady, General Secretary, TUC
- Mike Jackson, Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners
- Karen Reay, Regional Secretary, Unite the Union, Yorks and Humberside,
- Barbara Jackson, Secretary, Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign
- Eileen Turnbull, Shrewsbury 24 Campaign
- Craig Mansell, ex miner arrested at Orgreave
- Chris Kitchen, General Secretary NUM
- Matt Abbott, Poet
Craig Mansell, a miner arrested at Orgreave said:
“Home Secretary, Amber Rudd had an opportunity to authorise an inquiry and chose not to. We need to replace her with someone who will have the decency to acknowledge Amber Rudd’s miscalculation and implement an inquiry that is well overdue”
Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner said:
“I said when I was elected as Police and Crime Commissioner that I fully supported the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign in their fight for a proper enquiry into the events of Orgreave. The former miners and their families deserved to know the truth about what happened that day”
Chair of the OTJC Joe Rollin said:
“This General Election has involved remarkable gains for the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn and shows there is significant support for a new type of politics in this country based on fairness and social justice. The Labour Party is committed to implementing an inquiry and has stated clearly in their manifesto their intention to hold a public inquiry into policing practices at Orgreave”
Supporters are encouraged to bring along Banners and placards to this important event to celebrate and commemorate the Miners strike and our demands for Truth and Justice.
