There was a social contract developed at the end of World War II: Work hard and contribute to society, then society will take care of you.
That contract died when Thatcher broke the miners’ strike in 1984-85.
Economic decline over decades has led to the elimination of secure, well-paid jobs and their replacement by humiliating zero-hour contracts with one-step-above-poverty wages.

This meeting identifies the consequences and what can be done to change the situation.

Class Work  and the new edition of Shafted, produced for the 35th anniversary of the miners’ strike,  will be on sale at the meeting.

Meeting organised by Campaign for Broadcasting Freedom (North) & Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign as part of the Sheffield Festival of Debate season
