OTJC Supporter wins first prize!

Tabitha Bast, a support of the campaign has written to us to say:

“I was totally honoured to win first prize for the Grist Protest Short Story Competition with “But Have You Seen it in the Snow?”, a story reminding us of the long-lasting impact of Thatcher’s devastation across mining communities. The miners strike was my first political awakening as a child – through the Daily Mail which came through my parents door every morning – and then attending a Women Against Pit Closures talk when I was a teenager. This year, for the first time, I’m thrilled to be going to the Durham Miners Gala.

The story is meant to remind us that justice, respect and solidarity are not just about not causing ‘offence’, that the issues are not of pride but of life and death, and how; particularly for mothers; tension between the domestic and the political can be particularly long lasting.”
