Peterloo to Orgreave

This summer marks both the 35th anniversary of the police assault against striking miners at the Orgreave Coking Plant and 200 years since a peaceful rally in Manchester turned into the bloodiest political clash in British History.

The city’s People’s History Museum’s is running a year-long programme exploring the past, present and future of protest to mark what became known as the Peterloo Massacre, a defining moment for Britain’s democracy.

We have joined forces with the PHM to show how the state has used violence to repress working class action, and produced a new leaflet From Peterloo to Orgreave highlighting the historical links between these two ambushes planned by the state.
