Hackney North & Stoke Newington CLP
The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign thanks Hackney North & Stoke Newington CLP for their support – as strong now as it was for the miners back in 1984/85. Please see their message of support here👇👇👇
Miner Brian Lawton came to Hackney from Notts during the 1984/85 Miner’s Strike to organise solidarity work, taking up a role in the local Labour party. He remembers the day this picture was taken, outside Hackney Town Hall the day after the strike was called off – “Very emotional day. I remember it as if it was yesterday. The support we received from the citizens and trade unions of Hackney was truly remarkable, undoubtedly sustaining strikers, families and communities. Our struggles became united. NUM strikers learned so about the everyday struggles of living in a inner city.”Hackney North CLP is so proud of the solidarity of our members and the people of Hackney with the miners during the 1984/85 strike
We are proud today to support the Orgreave Truth & Justice Campaign. We have seen many reminders of the destructive role of political policing in recent years. These remind us of the gross injustices inflicted on striking miners, many of whom were convicted of offences on the basis of fabricated evidence and false testimony, with lasting destructive effects on many lives.Truth and justice are long overdue for these abuses, which should be exposed and restitution made, not only to surviving ex-miners, but to those who are no longer with us.Never forget! Never forgive!
