Message of Support from Sheila Coleman of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign
In order to understand the policing if Hillsborough it is necessary to understand the policing of the miners strike in the 1980’s.
South Yorkshire Police Force is the common denominator that unites Orgreave and Hillsborough. This police force were responsible for policing both of these major events. The recent report into the Hillsborough Disaster formally recorded what most of us already knew; not only was the disaster caused by the breakdown of control by South Yorkshire police,but they also then proceeded to orchestrate a coverup on a scale beyond anything ever recorded.
Those of us who were present at the inquests in Sheffield heard senior police officers refer to the crowd on the day of the disaster in relation to the policing of the miners strike. Indeed their experience of the miners strike was used as a positive indicator of their ability to police large crowds.
The people of Liverpool supported the miners and their families during their courageous fight in the 1980’s. In the same spirit of solidarity, the Hillsborough Justice Campaign extends it’s support to the Orgreave campaign for truth and justice. The corrupt policing of working class communities throughout the Thatcher years must be rigorously investigated and truthfully recorded in history in order for justice to be served.

You are right about a ‘cover-up’, but it is far more than South Yorks. Police. What
organisation is powerful enough to unite the police; ambulance services, the
coroner, the judiciary, the investigating police forces etc. etc. and continue to do so. This enquiry will drag on and on until all interested parties are dead or no longer interested. I recently sent a like message to Operation Resolve and the message came back less than a minute later. If that gate had not been opened, no-one would have died, therefore whoever ordered the gate to be opened is responsible for 96 deaths. After 25years, still investigating which
shows that my ‘group’ un-named but famed for bare left legs and nooses round
the neck, are powerful enough to control this enquiry as they have been doing
for 25 years. Duckenfield joined the Police a month after myself, but I resigned
in 1977 in the rank of inspector. I had worked many special duties at the two
Shefield football grounds, including semi-finals with no problems whatsoever.
Undoubtedly, Duckenfield and other senior officers are members of my afore-
mentioned ‘group’ so the enquiry will advance slowly but surely, with the accent on slowly. Having suffered similarly to the Liverpool families here in
France, where I live, some 30 years ago, I am disgusted by the lack of
consideration for the bereaved families, who are ignored in the haste to try to
cover up for the pathetic policing that day. It is hard to lose a loved one,
especially a child, but for the Justice to then cynically try to prove that the
guity parties are innocent is too hard to bear. I can symapthise with these
Liverpool people because I’ve been there and after 30 years the hurt just gets
worse.
