Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign Official Statement

Conservative dinner at the National Coal Mining Museum CANCELLED

The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign (OTJC) are pleased to learn that the National Coal Mining Museum (NCMM) Board of Trustees have decided that the Dinner booking from the Dewsbury, Mirfield, Denby Dale and Kirkburton Conservative Association should be cancelled. The opposition from the OTJC, National Union of Mineworkers, Durham Miners Association and many individuals from and beyond the mining community was important in highlighting the insensitivity and provocative nature of holding the Conservative dinner at the NCMM. We regard the NCMM is a valuable and important asset to the proud heritage and social history of our mining past.

OTJC Chair, Joe Rollin said: ‘The OTJC felt we had no option but to organise opposition and a peaceful picket at the planned event and are relieved that we no longer need to spend our time on this. We can now concentrate on getting Truth and Justice for the Miners brutalised at Orgreave without having to deal with other upsetting and inconsiderate distractions’
