Two Tribes – The miners’ strike of 84
Written and devised by UCB Acting for Touring Theatre Degree Student Actors
The miners’ strike of 1984-1985 was one of the bitterest industrial disputes Britain has ever seen. The year-long strike involved hardship and violence as pit communities from across the country fought to retain their local collieries.
As part of their course Degree Acting for Touring Theatre students have carried out research from which they have devised and written an original show called “Two Tribes” which also reflects the music and culture of the time.
The show depicts the bitter struggle between working miners and “Scabs” reflecting the personal struggles that these people went through.
For anyone who was involved at the time it will be an emotional roller-coaster and for those not born in 84 highly educational and entertaining.
