Wakefield Council Motion Support the OTJC

Mick Fitzpatrick, OTJC activist wants to leaflet in Wakefield prior to the meeting and he is suggesting meeting up for this at 12 midday.  If you are interested in being involved in the leafleting please contact orgreavejustice@hotmail.com so we can work out if there will be enough numbers to make this viable.

Councillors will be outside  County Hall at 1.30pm for photos along with OTJC supporters . I hope to see many of you there to help hold our banners.

Council starts at 2pm at County Hall, Bond Street, Wakefield, WF1 2QW and we will be able to go into the public gallery to hear the debate.  Hopefully the motion will be heard as the first item allowing those of us who want to leave to do so.

The wording of the motion is:

This Council:

Notes that on the 15 July 2015, members of Wakefield Council resolved to instruct the Chief Executive to write to the Home Secretary, calling for a formal investigation into the conduct of South Yorkshire Police at Orgreave.

Is therefore disappointed in the announcement made by the Home Secretary on 31 October 2016, that there will be no inquiry or an independent review into what happened on that day.

Recognises that this decision will leave many residents living in the Wakefield District with unresolved questions about the events at Orgreave, especially those who were present on that day.

Commends the work of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign in their attempts to secure an inquiry.

This Council resolves to:

Ask the Chief Executive to write to the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd MP, to express the Council’s disappointment with this decision and to re-emphasise the impact that Orgreave had on many residents living in the Wakefield District who feel that they have been denied justice as a result of this verdict.

Call on the Home Secretary to review this decision.
