Defend The Right to Protest

The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign sends Solidarity to all holding vigils and solidarity rallies this weekend against misogyny and the violence and abuse of women. The horrific unnecessary violence meted out by the Metropolitan Police towards women at the Clapham Common vigil on Saturday March 13th proved yet again that the police have failed to learn the lessons of the past. The Orgreave campaign is appalled by this draconian policing and fears this is now the start of a political clamp down on peaceful protest and gatherings. We saw new powers being rushed through parliament with the terrifying Covert Human Intelligence Sources Bill. Now the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is also being rushed through to grant police even more powers to stifle dissent from those who speak out against the state and those who show them solidarity.

As we gradually come out of the pandemic and lockdown restrictions the bosses will try and make workers’ pay for the economic crisis. All Trade Unionists and Activists must speak out to ensure the right of freedom of assembly is protected. The Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill is being debated in Parliament starting tomorrow, Monday 15th March 2021.

Please email your MP and encourage them to vote against it.  You can find your MP’s contact details easily using this link:
