ORGREAVE – Poem by Striking Miner, Billy Fraser
I was there in 84
I seen, I saw, I know the score
In training shoes and Scotland top
A magnet for the coppers prop.
A young lad just over 20
One baton hit was more than plenty
A rock in hand was my defence
For what unfolded made no sense.
The beatings that my comrades took
As coppers ripped up the rule book
Charging once, they charged again
Truncheons swinging trying to maim.
So forgive me if I dont forget
The bully boys from the MET
Who tried to smash heads of no one finer
My friends, My comrades , The British miner.
Never forgive
Never forget
