Massive Support for Orgreave Inquiry – Determined Campaigners will not be silenced
In the light of the Home Secretary’s shocking decision in October 2016 not to grant an independent public inquiry into police brutality against striking Miners at the Orgreave coking plant on 18th June 1984, the OTJC are planning our biggest and noisiest Demonstration to date.
On Monday 13th March at 2:00pm the OTJC and supporters will be gathering outside the Home Office on Marsham Street, London to make it clear to the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd that it is the public interest and an absolute imperative that she commissions an independent public inquiry about Orgreave.
Joe Rollin, Chair of OTJC and organiser of the Home Office event said “The Home Secretary’s decision not to hold an inquiry into what happened at Orgreave is disgraceful and shows utter contempt and a total disregard for the miners, their families and communities. People have spent decades waiting and campaigning for the truth to come out and we will carry on campaigning until justice is established. We saw a militarised police force at Orgreave beat up, fit up and lock up dozens of Miners”
Kevin Horne a Miner arrested at Orgreave and member of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign said “The events on that day at Orgreave and the aftermath represent one of the most grave miscarriages of justice in our country’s history. The Home Office files currently being released give us a fraction of the narrative. Only a full inquiry will help us to properly construct and achieve the truth we all need and deserve”
